New Allocation of Responsibilities on the Management Board of Praktiker
Management Board Chairman to focus on strategic development – German operations concentrated in one board function
Kirkel – December 22, 2009. The Supervisory Board of Praktiker Bau- und Heimwerkermärkte Holding AG resolved on a new allocation of responsibilities among the members of the Management Board. The new schedule of responsibilities effective from January 1, 2010 will result in a clear and future-oriented separation of strategic and operating duties.
With this move, the position of the Management Board Chairman Wolfgang Werner is strengthened as, in the future, he will exclusively focus on the further development and coordination of the Praktiker Group. This is illustrated among others by the decision to assign the overall responsibility for the program “Praktiker 2013” to him. The program bundles all measures initiated so far to increase margins, reduce costs and enhance efficiency. It thus aims at sustainably increasing the company’s earning potential.
Werner’s former operational responsibilities for the management of the Praktiker store network in Germany as well as for the sales division extra BAU+HOBBY will be assigned to Pascal Warnking. At the same time, Warnking will also assume responsibility for the subsidiary Max Bahr acquired in 2007. This way, all operating units active in the German market – from procurement to sales – will be bundled under one board function.
With this new allocation of responsibilities, Praktiker Bau- und Heimwerkermärkte Holding AG is adopting a Management Board structure that concentrates the operational responsibility more clearly than before in two board functions, defines the functions Finance/Controlling (Thomas Ghabel) and Human Resources/Services (Karl-Heinz Stroh) largely as cross-divisional functions, and assigns the responsibility for the strategic development of the group to the Chairman of the Management Board as his main duty. The scope of the board function Internationalization/International Business (Michael Arnold) will be extended by Location Management. “These changes will enable us to better respond to the challenges of the future and the value-oriented development of the company”, stressed CEO Werner.
